Steel-Master software is for the design of steel structures, like industrial sheds, trusses, columns, gantry girders, portal frames, Multistoried platforms and towers etc. It has many pre-defined truss and frame configurations. It calculates the dead load, live load and wind load automatically. It also generates section-wise quantities of items. Rolled sections like angles, channels, hollow box or tubular sections can be used in design. It comes with a Built-Up section Editor, with which user can create his own Library of frequently used sections.

STEEL-MASTER software comes with a utility program for creating a built-up section library using 7 types of standard rolled sections, namely, I beams, Channels, Angles, T sections, Box sections, Tubes and Plates. Sketch of the compound section is displayed on screen while it is being built, for visual data checking. Built-up section C.G. and compound properties are calculated and stored in the library file for future use.

Program uses MS-Access compatible database files at back-end for storing the built-up sections for easy retrieval. Separate files are created for storing different types of frequently used sections. Program comes with ready to use library files, like Two I Beams, Two Channels Back-to-Back or Face-to-Face, Four Angels or I Beam with top channel etc.

These Built-up sections can be called in the order of weight or depth during the design of a column or beam. User selectable data units is a new facility by which user can change the units of any item like dimension, load, moment, stress etc. A master unit table can be tailor made, which will store default values of various units.
Column Design


Text Box:  Column sections subjected with axial load and biaxial moments can be designed with this program. A suitable section can be automatically selected from a library file. User can also choose a particular section through interactive selection. Effective length about X and Y can be different. Actual and permissible stresses for each load combination are printed in output with its sketch. Section drawing can also be stored in CAD compatible CAD file.



Steel Beams subjected to shear force and biaxial moments can be designed. Gantry girders with unequal flanges are designed for horizontal and vertical crane loads. Top flanges of the beam can be designed for full horizontal thrust. Stresses at four extreme points are calculated for each load combination. Weight of the compound section is also calculated and printed.

All design programs now have a new look. The main screen is divided into three windows namely, Input, Output and Design sketch. Whenever an Input parameter is changed, the design output and sketch window is automatically updated.


Design data for each component is stored in Database file at back-end, so that it can be redesigned later. Design sketch can be stored in CAD compatible CAD drawing files. Design outputs are stored in Multi colour HTML formats, which includes graphical sketch as well, thereby making it equivalent to the manual design calculation sheet.


This program is useful for designing any welded joint. User can define the group of weld lines used at the connection; apply the forces acting on it. Program will calculate weld thickness required to resist the forces. All possible three forces and three moments can be applied at the junction.


Truss geometry can be defined in four ways, namely, Using standard shape from 15 pre-defined truss shapes, Entering data numerically with in-built editor, Drawing truss geometry graphically within Steel-Master or reading the line sketch drawn in a CAD package.

Program calculates the nodal loads for Dead, Live and Wind Load cases. It carries out analysis using stiffness matrix method. Member end forces and nodal displacements are included in output. Program designs the suitable section for each member using single or double angles / channels ,circular / hollow rectangular tubes. Section wise as well as total weight of the truss is printed.

Portal Frames and Multi Storied Industrial Structures can be analyzed and designed using this program. Crane loads and wind loads can be included in the analysis. Program generates the Deflection, Bending Moment and Shear Force diagrams graphically. Three dimensional space structures can also be designed.

Program will first design all members of the frame automatically and assign a section size for the selected type of single or double sections of I-beam, Channel, Angle, Box or Tube. User can change the size if desired with Interactive design option. Section wise quantities are also printed in the output.

Usage of database files at back-end and interactive design option are the unique design features of this software. A utility is available to read analysis output files of other analysis software and store the forces for multiple load combinations in a database file, so that the design can be done with STEEL-MASTER.
